Algeria Nigeria and Niger Move Ahead with Trans Sahara Gas Pipeline

Three Nations United for Gas Pipeline

In March 2026, Algeria and Nigeria announced that the Trans-Sahara Gas Pipeline project will officially move forward after the Ramadan period. Niger is also part of this project, as the pipeline will pass through its territory before reaching Algeria. The three countries agreed to continue working together to start this major energy project, which has been under discussion for many years, as per the published report. 

Moreover, the planned pipeline will be more than 4,000 kilometers long and is expected to carry around 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas every year. The project has an estimated value of about US$13 billion. As shared in the report, Algeria's national energy company, Sonatrach, will build the section of the pipeline inside Algeria. 

Also, the three countries have already completed important planning work and are now preparing to begin construction. Moreover, the project is expected to strengthen cooperation between Algeria, Nigeria, and Niger by combining their resources and infrastructure. Nigeria will provide the natural gas, Niger will serve as the transit country, and Algeria will use its existing export network to move the gas to international buyers. 

According to Towards Chem and Materials, the global oil and gas logistics market size was valued at USD 199.20 billion in 2025, is estimated to reach USD 212.83 billion in 2026, and is projected to reach USD 386.04 billion by 2035, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.84% over the forecast period from 2026 to 2035, due to a heavy shift towards industrialization where the overall work depends on machines and consumes a greater amount of fossil fuels.

Furthermore, the announcement shows that the Trans-Sahara Gas Pipeline has entered a new phase after years of planning. With construction expected to begin after Ramadan, the three countries are taking another step toward developing one of Africa's largest cross-border gas infrastructure projects.
