8th January 2026, SABIC, a leading plastics producer, inked a deal with popular International investment groups like Europe’s Aequita SE and Co. KGaA and America’s Mutares SE and Co. KGaA. This agreement confirms SABIC's commitment to the groups regarding the sale of petrochemical and engineering thermoplastics. The total value of the whole transaction procedure reached $950 million. Further, the bifurcation of this value is divided into $500 million and $450 million.
Europe’s Aequita SE and Co. KGaA will be crediting SABIC’s business account with its $500 million commitment, and America’s Mutares SE and Co. KGaA will be buying SABIC’s ETP business for $450 million. As per said transaction, Aequita will own four production sites in four countries: Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands. The total employment will open positions for 1,900 individuals and cover a total of $3.5 billion in revenues. The sites will be producing polyolefins and olefins like propylene, value-added polymer compounds, ethylene, PP and low- and high-density polyethylene.
The Mutares transaction is still in progress and is said to close in the second half of this year with customary approvals. SABIC continued to share more insights on its deal and strategies, saying, “The divestments are a part of its plans to enhance returns. The returns primarily concentrate on popular products and markets. The company seeks accurate competitive benefits and recycled capital to secure the huge return opportunities. Also, SABIC is focusing on enhancing free cash flow to propel shareholder value and deliver satisfaction to customers. Furthermore, the company confirmed that the transaction will not hamper the innovations and technologies, which are a part of the valuable promise to the customers.”
Aequita said, “This petrochemical purchasing business deal is like an integrated platform with a great market position that also benefits infrastructure and conquers well-developed customer relationships. This platform will be bolstering the product portfolio while expanding the cross-selling opportunities. This merged business is expected to reach $7 billion in revenues.”
