We’re excited to invite you to Newcastle, United Kingdom, this September for the 5th International Solar Fuels (ISF) Conference—a much-anticipated event in the global solar fuels calendar. This series began in 2015 in Uppsala, Sweden, and has since become a key gathering for the international solar fuels community. The 2025 edition is being organized in collaboration with the Royal Society of Chemistry and members of the wider scientific organizing committees.
This year’s conference promises to be a dynamic and enriching experience, featuring:
A dedicated early-career researcher (ECR) programme on 1st and 2nd September
The main conference from 2nd to 5th September, with three parallel sessions each day
A line-up of invited speakers, contributed oral presentations, and poster sessions
Networking opportunities, social events, and panel discussions on careers, publishing, and more
Kara Bren is the Richard S. Eisenberg Professor in Chemistry and Chemistry Department Chair at the University of Rochester, NY, USA. She is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a Kavli Fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. She earned her B.A. in Chemistry at Carleton College in Minnesota, and her Ph.D. at Caltech working with Harry Gray and as a Visiting Student in the lab of Ivano Bertini in Florence, Italy. After an NIH Postdoc with Gerd LaMar at the University of California Davis, she started her independent academic career at the University of Rochester. Her research has included investigations of metalloprotein dynamics and electronic structure. Currently, her group is focused on developing bioinorganic systems for energy conversion and storage.
